KMU Observes World Immunization Week 2025

Khyber Medical University (KMU) Institute of Pathology and Diagnostic Medicine (IPDM), in collaboration with AMSON Vaccines and Pharma, organized a successful symposium in connection with World Immunization Week 2025. The event aimed to highlight the importance of immunization in building a healthier Pakistan.
The symposium featured expert insights on the significance of vaccines, disease prevention, and immunization strategies. Activities included an awareness walk, a cake-cutting ceremony, and a special vaccination drive offering vaccines at discounted rates for KMU faculty members, staff, and their families.
Vice Chancellor KMU, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized the university's commitment to public health and preventive immunization. He appreciated the vaccination drive, noting that it would not only raise awareness among students, faculty, and staff but also provide access to essential vaccines under one roof at reduced costs.
The event commenced with opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Yasar Yousafzai, Director IPDM. Dr. Ehsanullah, Head of Microbiology, highlighted vaccine-preventable diseases. Dr. Taj Ali Khan elaborated on societal attitudes towards vaccines, both supportive and opposing. Dr. Khalid Ur Rehman, Director IPH, reviewed effective strategies to counter vaccine refusal in Pakistan. Dr. Gulab Fatima Rani presented an in-depth talk on the role of vaccination in cancer prevention. Dr. Asghar from Khyber Medical College discussed typhoid vaccination, while Mr. Farhan Nasir, representative of AMSON Pharma, shed light on the role of the pharmaceutical industry in promoting vaccination. Additionally, EPI representative Dr. Mehtab Khan provided informative insights into the routine immunization schedule.
The event concluded with an enthusiastic awareness walk, actively participated in by students, faculty, and staff. A ceremonial cake was also cut to officially launch the university's special vaccination campaign. Furthermore, a vaccination camp has been set up in Dr. Hafeezullah Hall at KMU, which will continue until May 2, 2025. During this period, KMU faculty, staff, and their families will be offered immunization services at special discounted rates.
