Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, celebrated Respiratory Care Week under the theme “Breathe Easy: Journey Together, Impact Forever.” This week event emphasized the significance of respiratory therapy, promoting positive mental and physical health with messages like “Inhale Positivity, Exhale Negativity” and “Venting Beyond Patient Care.”
The event’s chief guest, Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli, Dean of Basic Medical Education and Pro Vice Chancellor of KMU, highlighted the critical role of respiratory therapy in modern healthcare. Dr. Rubina underscored the importance of respiratory therapy in patient care, noting the advancements in respiratory equipment and the impact of these services on patient quality of life. She also emphasized the need to raise awareness about the latest models of respiratory care equipment, aiming to enhance patient care practices across healthcare settings.
Special presentations were delivered by guest speakers, including Osama Ijaz, a respiratory therapist from Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital, and Basharat Ali, a respiratory therapist from Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH). Both shared insights into commonly used respiratory care techniques and the essential role of respiratory therapists in patient recovery.
Respiratory Care Week, first recognized in 1982 through a proclamation by President Ronald Reagan, serves as a reminder of the dedicated efforts of respiratory therapists in healthcare. KMU’s event celebrated their contributions, raising awareness about respiratory therapy’s pivotal role in enhancing patient well-being.
